The everyday rhythm

How your child earns screen time with Jar Loft

You choose the limits. Your child plays a round of five questions, then decides whether to spend earned minutes or save them. Jar Loft applies the plan on the device where it is installed.

Set up the device together

Use your child's own iPhone or iPad with a child Apple Account in Family Sharing, or a shared family iPad with a Screen Time passcode that only the parent knows. Both setups need iOS or iPadOS 26.5 or later. Jar Loft manages one child profile on that device, with no remote control from your phone.

Set a parent PIN, keep the recovery code somewhere safe and allow Screen Time permission. Choose the apps the plan covers and keep necessary school apps available through the school-app exceptions. Then run the in-app lock test before relying on the plan.

Read the setup guidance and lock checks.

Agree on the daily plan

The daily allowance is time available without a learning round. The reward is the number of minutes a successful round earns. A daily earning cap limits how many minutes can be added, while a daily spending cap limits how many can be used. Bedtime ends earned spend windows.

You choose these rules in the parent area. The standard plan includes a separate 15-minute daily allowance, a 10-minute reward, a 60-minute daily earning cap, a 90-minute daily spending cap and bedtime from 8 pm to 7 am. These are starting settings to discuss together, not health advice.

Complete a learning round

A round has five questions. To earn minutes, your child answers all five correctly, with at most two answered after a hint. If a question is still too hard after the hint, the round ends gently with an explanation and no payout. There is no speed requirement and no random reward.

With the standard rules, a successful round earns 10 minutes. Your child can use those minutes in a spend window or save them.

The daily allowance is separate. Explore the learning rounds to see the subjects and how hints work.

Spend now or save for later

Your child chooses a finite spend window using available minutes. When the window ends, Jar Loft automatically returns the selected app shields, subject to Apple's Screen Time limits. A daily spending cap and bedtime can also limit the window. Spend-jar minutes expire after seven days.

Under the standard rules, the Save jar adds a Sunday bonus: save 20 minutes and get 5 extra minutes on Sunday. The bonus is subject to the daily earning cap, and the Save jar holds up to 120 minutes. These are app minutes, with no cash value or unlimited growth.

Know what stays in your control

You can keep school apps available, give minutes or use parent Pause to lift app shields temporarily for up to 24 hours. Pause can extend past bedtime, while earned spend windows stop at bedtime. Device restrictions and the web filter stay in place during Pause.

The free plan keeps the lock, daily allowance and one earning round a day. Paid access allows more earning rounds, subject to your caps. It does not make the lock more reliable or exclusively unlock learning subjects. See the plan and subscription terms.

Your child's profile, answers, learning progress and minutes stay on the device. The privacy policy explains the anonymous parent-screen and Apple notification counts our server receives.

Picture in Picture, Messages videos and already-open browser tabs may continue after time ends. Passcode knowledge, device resets and other devices can get around the plan. Check the lock after a restart or update and read the Screen Time limitations.
